Abstract: The main goal of the study was the structuring of activities, performed within the residential space, and their properties. 91 participants filled in a questionnaire, where they rated the preferred level of seven properties for eight important activities. The answers were analysed by means of the three-way component analysis (3PCA). It turned out that both activities and properties could be meaningfully summarised by a smaller number of components. Results further revealed qualitative individual differences: five groups were identified with distinct patterns of activity-property interactions. The article also describes steps in performing 3PCA as well as its advantages and drawbacks. It is argued that many researchers are not sufficiently aware of the utility of 3PCA.
